Lots of rain (6/8/20)

This week was a great week. We had a tropical storm, and our zone leader said that it was more powerful than last year's hurricane Dory where he was. Interesting. But there was a ton of rain most of this week.

But we will start with district council on Tuesday. It was good. We bought Capri Sun for everyone because they made a goal for having a ward meeting in every ward. Nice. They were rather watery, and I drank a kiwi one. Didn't have an allergic reaction, so that's good. My stomach was abnormally small this day. We made some spaghetti before because we have district lunch after. I ate like 5 bites and was like I'm full now, while there's other elders bustin' up laughing because they are on their 3rd burger. We have lots of debate conversations and just your-opinion-is-wrong conversations, like our Jar Jar Binks convo last week. We had one about candy this week. Lots was said. Some people hate Smarties with a burning passion, some people love Nerds, some people hate salt on chocolate, and apparently cracked pepper is the best flavor of sunflower seeds. Pickles and mayo are liked by literally only 1 person, 2 people love cowtails, and there was quite the conversation about Mexican candy and chips and salsa. The zone leaders weren't there, but when they heard about it a few days later they started getting mad at everyone because when literally any opinion exists, it's wrong haha. They weren't getting mad--it's just a show. It's kinda a game of who can tell each other they are wrong more and then agree on literally everything at the end. A very popular topic is Disney movies and the music in them. So far Hercules is sorta winning on the music, but then the Jungle Book is actually winning more. And then they all agree on Tangled and Mulan and Pocahontas, so they eliminate them from the convo because they agree on them and there's no fun in a differing opinion I guess. I felt like a grandma again. I have no idea what they are talking about. The only thing I knew was the sunflower seeds. But the other candies--no idea. The movies, I watched them when I was like 6 and then forgot them. Hard to keep up like that. Okay now with that out of the way, the rest of the day was good. A traffic light skipped us 3 times haha. We were first at the light and it went green left turn, then green right turn, then green for the other direction. Did that 3 times. It was hilarious, but people were getting enraged for some reason. Went on a trade off with Elder Ortiz. We called a bunch of people, and one started Bible bashing us. He did it just to do it. It was really annoying.

Then on Wednesday we just watched a ton of Facebook videos to try to better our Facebook page, The Church of Jesus Christ in Tallahassee. Check it out haha. Anyway, there were some videos that had rap songs in the background, and they were recreating memes. That's not what you're supposed to do as a missionary. The problem is that those are the videos that got the most views. We almost hit a car the way home, but God was helpin' us out, got some angels down here to stop our car. It was nice. Also, has literally anyone ever heard of Wild Coyote ranch dressing? "It's Hidden Valley but WAY better" -my comp. I have never heard of this stuff. Also, ranch dressing isn't something I go and seek out. Ranch is ranch. You use it like twice a month. Okay.

Thursday was great. Started the book Saints because I have so much time on my hands. Got to call home, got some music on my phone, I bought some tapatio hot sauce, ate way too much of it--if there's anything in my body that shouldn't be there, it is now dead because of the amount of hot sauce I ate hahahahaha. I watched a video about doors on the Church's Facebook page. It was way good. We did our weekly planning and got dinner from a member from a place called Sunny's. It's some good bar-b-que. No R&R by any means, but their strawberry lemonade is so good. Literally only reason I'd tell you to go there. So if you're somewhere in the South for some reason, go to Sunny's and get strawberry lemonade. Hopefully you like it. We did a nice little Bible study with some people. Somebody joined and talked about the Book of Mormon and now they don't like it because they think we replaced the Bible. No amount of explaining can open a locked door until they read and the spirit unlocks the door. But they have to read it, and that might kill some people to do it sadly.

On Friday I was with the zone leader, Elder Swensen. He trained my companion, and now he's the zone leader to my companion haha. Nice. He ripped out an ingrown fingernail and taught me about the word potato. He's from Idaho, so I guess Idahoans will get this? So there's a potato. Literally the whole world uses this word. You are normal. Then there's spud. If you use this word, you know how to plant, grow, and harvest them things. You know what you're doin'. Then there's tuber. You do not use this word unless you've been planting your whole life. Not sure what the criteria are, but he said if you hear somebody use the word tuber, you are basically in the presence of an exalted being. You might want to consider bowing down to them and trying to learn everything they know. Tuber. lol. Such a great word. We went to Taco Dell or something. Whatever was by our house. I then ate hot sauce with a side of quesadillas I made for dinner. That really killed anything dead in my body from last time. We had a call with a member who wanted to learn more about adversity. We talked about Joseph Smith and the early saints. They knew all about the word. Our pineapple is also gone. Weird. We have more in the fridge, but just a whole pineapple, gone. haha.

Saturday was rather fun. We had some flash flood warnings, and when we were driving we had to slow way way down because the rain was coming down so hard you could maybe see 50 feet in front of you. Same on Sunday when we took the sacrament to others. We had a member's famous chili spaghetti. Now you may be thinking it's an awful combo, but it's pretty good. It was a good balance and a good mixture. We had chocolate cake after. Lots of wins. We all got packages today. My comp got 5 pounds of peachy-o's. It's just peach ring gummy candy? Yet again, I do not understand any of what is going on. We have started playing a game called Cover Your Assets during outside time. It's pretty fun. They were also hating on the game hearts. Ok, Go Fish is not better than Hearts. You play 2 rounds of Go Fish and then do something else because it has very little to offer. We washed the side of the house in the back because they drew on it and want to draw something new.

We started our fast and on Sunday we took the sacrament to some people. It was good fun. Got a  rain jacket yesterday and promptly forgot I had it, so I soaked my suit. Nice. I haven't seen that much rain since Brazil. The water collection system is much better here, just sayin'. We did a bunch of Duolingo today also. The leg pit of my leg, weird, was twitching sorta violently today. Twitching muscles are interesting. If it's a random muscle in your cheek it's funny because it tickles and it just feels weird. But in your leg pit you're like what is happening?? Do I need to get this thing cut off? We ended our fast. The elders in the back ended theirs with donuts. Interesting choice. A ton of sugar on a completely empty stomach. Nice.

And now for today, the glorious Monday, the preparation day. We went to a state park. It was way cool and it was so humid that my glasses fogged up when I got out of the car or the house. They do that a little usually, but this was 100%. I took off my glasses and wiped them off and it came back. Some gnarly humidity. Today was so nice. For the sole reason of I was not wearing a white shirt and tie. If I was it would still be fun. It was like Alfred B Gardens state park? I have no idea. We put on 98% Deet bug spray, probably not safe for skin because it literally said do not put on face. Questionable if it was designed for skin. It said it would not ruin or damage cotton. Interesting. We had a little lunch after--warm water and pb&j's. It was a lot of fun though. The more bug spray you have on the more you will enjoy it. There was also a ton of little frogs. HOW COULD I FORGET????? The zone leaders were driving home at night this last week and they said they were a part of the frogopalypse, frog apocalypse--because it was raining, frogs jump into the street and can't get out. They see your head lights and "furiously jump towards your car, and you can't swerve, so you just scream and... bump bump." They hit like 3 and missed a ton more. They sent it into our zone group chat, and it was hilarious. So that's the new joke for right now: you frog killer, NO I AM NOT A FROG KILLER!!! OK?!!? I WAS TRYING TO SWERVE AND MISS THEM! Yeah right, more like swerve into them. Hahaha.

It's a lot of fun out here. If you can serve a mission, don't be discouraged if you get called stateside because it is literally so much fun here. Before my mission, I thought stateside missions sucked and felt bad for people who went to Montana, or South Dakota, or Florida, just anywhere stateside. But now I'm stateside, IT IS SO MUCH FUN. If you are thinking of going on a mission, go. Don't let no ca-rona stop ya. Unless you're older than 65. In that case, stay home until 'Rona is done, then go.
